Freezer Room Not Freezing — Emergency Diagnosis & Repair

Recognising these signs early can prevent total product loss:

• Temperature stuck above -18°C despite continuous running
• Product soft, sweating, or beginning to refreeze with ice crystals
• Evaporator heavily iced or, conversely, completely clear
• Liquid line sight glass showing bubbles or oil separation

Take these steps now, before our technician arrives:

• Do NOT add warm product — it will overwhelm an already struggling system.
• Check that the defrost is terminating and the coil isn't a solid block of ice.
• Confirm the condenser is clean and the fan is spinning freely.
• Call REYDS — freezer faults cascade quickly into total product loss.

Our technicians check each of these in turn to pinpoint the fault:

• Defrost heater failure — Ice builds up on the evaporator, blocking airflow and insulating the coil from the room air.
• Refrigerant shortage — Low charge drops suction pressure below the level needed to reach -18°C.
• Faulty hot gas or reverse-cycle defrost — If the defrost diverting valve fails, ice never clears and capacity collapses.
• Expansion valve icing — A TXV that ices closed starves the evaporator and stops the freezing cycle.
