Cold Room Tripping Power — Emergency Diagnosis & Repair

Recognising these signs early can prevent total product loss:

• Main breaker or RCD trips when the cold room starts or runs
• Cannot reset the breaker without it immediately tripping again
• Other circuits on the same board losing power
• Tripping happens at a specific point in the cycle (start-up or defrost)

Take these steps now, before our technician arrives:

• Do NOT bypass or up-rate the breaker — it is tripping to protect you and the plant.
• Isolate the cold room at its local isolator.
• Note whether it trips on start-up, during run, or in defrost.
• Call REYDS immediately — a tripping cold room is an active electrical fault.

Our technicians check each of these in turn to pinpoint the fault:

• Compressor earth fault — Winding insulation breaks down to the compressor body, leaking current to earth and tripping the RCD.
• Shorted component — A failed heater, fan motor, or wiring run shorts to earth or across the line.
• Moisture ingress — Water in a junction box or on the controller creates a path to earth, tripping an RCD.
• Overload or breaker fatigue — An aged breaker or overload trips below its rated current, or a genuine overload from a failing compressor.
