Defrost Failure — Emergency Diagnosis & Repair

Recognising these signs early can prevent total product loss:

• Thick ice on the evaporator coil blocking airflow
• Temperature rising despite the compressor running
• Defrost indicator not cycling or heater not energising
• Water pooling under the unit instead of draining

Take these steps now, before our technician arrives:

• Do not chip ice off with a sharp tool — you will puncture the coil.
• Check the defrost timer or controller is not stuck in a single mode.
• Confirm the defrost heater is receiving power when it should.
• Call REYDS to repair the defrost before ice collapses the coil.

Our technicians check each of these in turn to pinpoint the fault:

• Defrost heater failure — A burnt-out or broken heater can't melt ice, so it accumulates until airflow stops.
• Defrost timer/controller fault — A stuck or failed timer never initiates defrost, or never terminates it.
• Defrost termination thermostat — A failed termination stat either cuts defrost short or lets it run too long.
• Blocked drain — Melt water can't escape, refreezes, and builds an ice bridge that blocks the coil.

REYDS tests the heater circuit, timer, and termination stat, clears the ice safely with controlled heat, clears the drain, and replaces the failed component. We set defrost frequency and duration to suit your room's load and humidity, then verify the coil clears fully each cycle.

Monthly checks of the drain and a quarterly defrost-cycle test ensure ice never gets a foothold between service visits.
