Fan Motor Failure — Emergency Diagnosis & Repair

Recognising these signs early can prevent total product loss:

• No airflow across the evaporator or condenser coil
• Compressor running but temperature rising
• Buzzing or humming from a fan that isn't spinning
• Fan blade wobbles, scrapes, or won't start

Take these steps now, before our technician arrives:

• Check for a tripped fan isolator or a seized blade obstructed by debris.
• Do not run the compressor with a dead condenser fan — it will overheat and fail.
• Note which fan (evaporator or condenser) has stopped.
• Call REYDS for a same-day fan motor replacement.

Our technicians check each of these in turn to pinpoint the fault:

• Burnt motor winding — Overheating or age burns out the winding; the motor hums but won't turn.
• Failed capacitor — A dead run capacitor can't start the motor, which then sits and overheats.
• Seized bearing — A dry or corroded bearing locks the rotor, tripping the motor on thermal overload.
• Obstructed blade — Debris, ice, or a failed guard jams the blade, stalling and overloading the motor.

REYDS tests the motor winding and capacitor, frees or replaces the blade, and fits a correctly rated replacement motor with the right capacitor. We confirm rotation, airflow, and amperage before we leave so the coil gets full air again.

Annual bearing checks and capacitor tests catch failing fans before they stop. Keep condenser guards clear of leaves and debris.
